Introduction

My general interest in housing programme began during the year in architecture school when the topic of housing was dealt with in the design studios. The evolving complexities of the issues surrounding it made it particularly interesting as it calls for new evaluations and intepretations of how we can live in the urban environment. Issues such as practical considerations for light and ventilation, urban housing density, cost, building of communities, growing interest in sustainable environmental and economic development among others help shape our living environments.

Besides, my particular interest lies in the place i dwell in, in the very estate in Singapore. The interest stems from living in such an environment in all my years and wanting to understand how this environment is constructed, the implications and effects, new ways of looking at and interpretation of housing estates. I guess this can be both a nostalgic, as well as, a forward-looking kind of project. And these are my initial thoughts thus far.
